Situation
A subsidiary of Thermadyne, the world's 4th largest supplier of our product range, CIGWELD, which
commenced operations in Australia over 75 years ago, designs, manufactures and supplies a
comprehensive range of electric welding equipment and consumables, safety and health care and
medical products, and gas control equipment.
Management identified the need to compile a concise top level document to ensure the
company's quality system complied with the new international standard.
Challenge
Because of time considerations, the company asked The Management Edge to develop a top level, user
friendly quality manual that both complied to the new standard and matched existing procedures.
They were also required to develop flow chart procedures where gaps in the existing system were identified
Actions
The Management Edge met with senior QA managers and reviewed all written procedures, past audit
results, and mission statements. To meet the new standard they also met with the Marketing Director and
customer service staff to identify the processes required to be incorporated to meet the 9001 -2000 standard.
We identified the gaps in their current system and prepared a user friendly referenced manual and set of
operating procedures. We also conducted a third party audit on their system prior to their own surveillance
audit
Results
A draft referenced manual, with revised quality statement and referenced procedures that could be used
as both an internal top level quality system document and could be provided to clients from a marketing
perspective to support any enquiry as to CIGWELD's quality of management system's capabilities.
