COURSE INFORMATION Lecture, demonstrations, field trips to the Print Museum will expose students to a broad range of typographic styles, influences, and visual communication strategies, while workshops and assignments will teach students  to work with Adobe Photoshop CS5 & Adobe Indesign CS5. At the end of the two-week program, students will have an opportunity to meet typography professionals. We combine four modes of work: more structured seminars on a range of topics; guided hands-on sessions at the Print Museum, Mac Labs; informal discussions on specific areas; and feedback sessions on practical projects. Topics that will be covered We will look at the history of typography, evolution/ anatomy of letterforms. We will address the critical balance of originality and utility in typeface design, the development of quality throughout an extended family, and the capture of personality in a finished typeface. Students will also be exploring and introspecting various aspects of typography that is used around them. If you have your own designs to bring to the practical sessions, we will use those to expand your skills. If you don’t, we will help you develop your working methods so that you can take first sketches to a typeface you can test. We will also introduce wider issues (such as how to approach a whole type family) for you to explore later. Arts & Design College  ACN: 134 488 092  Tel: (03) 9853 0400 Fax: (03) 9853 0500
