Accommodation
Students can request a rental list from Student Services. If you have housing queries or need to find
accommodation either shared or on your own please contact Student Support officer. However, there are
a number of real estate agents available in Australia and most of them can be found on the net at
www.realestate.com.au/ and www.domain.com.au along with the properties they have available.
What to look for when looking for a rental property?
Renting Alone Renting a unit/flat/house alone can be a very expensive option but can mean that you are
able to maintain a suitable environment as you are the only one living in the property. Before choosing to
rent a property by yourself, please make sure that you have considered all factors like budget, housework
etc.
Shared Accommodation (renting with others)
The other option to renting alone is renting in a share house. This is where you rent a property with other
people and is based on mutual agreements. However, when looking at renting a home and sharing with
others it is very difficult to know if the relationship between you and the others will work out. A good rule is
to get to know the others before you enter into any agreement. You should consider the following areas of
concern before signing up the contract.
•
See if you share common interests, if your lifestyle is similar.
•
Once you agree to share a unit/flat/house draft a written agreement with all the rules set out and
each member should sign it.
•
How much extra money is needed to pay for all incidental expenses?
•
How much is my share of the food bill, and what will be included?
•
How much do I contribute to services expenses?
•
Are there any other things that I need to be made aware of?
•
If I move out for whatever reason what expense am I likely to incur?
•
Is there a bond?
•
If it is agreed that I leave what portion of the bond can I expect back?
If you know all the rules then you are less likely to have a problem with settling.
Please note that The Management Edge encourages all students to contact the Student Support Officer
or Student coordinator prior to signing any agreement with any persons that they do not know personally
for further advice.
